Can You Teach An Old Dog New Tricks?
Who are we to believe? We get mixed messages. People are being sold/told to take only “some” drugs and not others.
Are we supposed to believe that some drugs are good for us and some are not?
Natural vs. synthetic? Drugs are simply chemicals that react in the
human body. The truth is ALL drugs are potentially harmful for consumption. In
this period of increased awareness about drug abuse, both natural and
pharmaceutical, there is simply too much hypocrisy and too much emphasis placed
upon eliminating the source rather than addressing the
need.
There is a sense of need for drugs. Just why do people need
drugs?
It is usually to avoid pain and suffering.
Oftentimes they are used to help hide and suppress feelings. Much of the time
drug use has to do with beliefs and attitudes about one’s body and
one’s relationship with the world. I am as tempted as anyone by drugs. And there
definitely is a time and place for them in the short term.
I do believe there are valid needs for drug intervention. Drugs could be
good for someone who is acutely ill where using more natural methods wouldn’t be
expedient enough. Note that in most cases, though, if health restoration truly
is the goal, then perhaps finding ways that help that person move back into
balance and restore their vitality might lead to a different long-term treatment
course. However, in most cases we need to first accept our pain and become
receptive internally to asking ourselves where is this pain from and what is it
trying to tell us? Now mind you, I have experienced a kidney stone making its
way down my ureter….I do NOT wish that on anyone….. But after the pharmaceutical
relief, and the stone blessedly passed, I soon began to focus on what had been
going on with my body that would have allowed or caused that to happen. How could I
make my kidneys healthy? Pain is a message from our bodies trying to get our attention
that something is out of balance. Oftentimes we may have just lost touch with our bodies or
otherwise have a disease pattern reaching a threshold point in our system. We need to deal
within ourselves with the disease pattern or the self-neglect pattern even more than the
symptoms.
Drugs alter the body chemistry. They cause certain reactions to occur. Part of the time the
reaction is desired but it is by no means natural and oftentimes triggers undesirable side effects.
Even with the slick commercials on TV that are selling drugs, even with
the beautiful, lovely scenic locations and the voice over telling you
about possible side effects from taking that drug, if we actually listen to that list, how can we possibly
take the chance of any of those happening to us? All drugs have side effects because they affect
each body in a different way. At best drugs should be a very short term plan to give your body time
to build up its resistance and vitality, to better fight disease and reestablish balance and
harmony. But it all centers on our own innate ability to recuperate. Some may
have been told that due to some organic deficiency they will be forced to rely
on certain drugs for the rest of their lives. But do they question if in fact
that IS necessary and just how much can they do to restore natural order to
their body?
At worst drugs can kill you. The statistics are staggering. In most cases drugs are misused and/or
abused. Drugs change you. If you are taking a drug or drugs for any condition, think about it. Are they
really making you healthy? If you are taking drugs for stress reduction, think about it.
Are they reducing the stress or just numbing you out? If you are taking drugs for physical or
emotional or spiritual pain, THINK ABOUT IT! Do they really make your life any better?
Do they improve your well-being? If yes, then bless you.
